Interviews *Sit up straight *Look interested *Maintain eye contact *Dress for SUCCESS! Even for an industrial position where the work is dirty, for the interview wear clean, neat, conservative clothing - avoid t-shirts with loud sayings or graphics, no ripped clothing, or revealing clothing. *Be prepared to answer questions with more than a yes or no answer. GIVE DETAILS! *Be prepared to talk about your work history and any gaps in your employment history *Be POSITIVE - nobody likes a negative attitude *Be able to take constructive criticism *In today's work, we know that there are a lot of single parents; however, a job interview is not a place for children - if you can, we suggest you leave the children at home *Be on time for appointments - if you are unsure of location call for directions. (Taking a "dry-run visit the night before so you know where you are going is a great idea!) *Leave your cell phone in the car or turn it off *Don't bring in food or drinks for an interview *Do not "bad mouth" previous employers *Introduce yourself *Give a nice firm handshake
Resumes *Do not put resumes on colored paper - use either white or ivory only *Resumes should be 1 page in length - having "wordy" resumes can be a turn off to potential employers
